INTRODUCTION
Greetings. My name is Dr. Ken Newberger. I hold a Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis & Resolution from Nova Southeastern University and a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. I am the author of Hope in the Face of Conflict: Making Peace with Others the Way God Makes Peace with Us.
For more than twenty-five years, I have helped congregations and couples move from conflict toward peace, from hurt toward healing, and from distance toward genuine connection. I have mediated conflicts within church boards, staff teams, and congregations, and have worked with more than 500 couples. My overall approach combines a solid biblical foundation with the best of modern research.
If you are struggling in your marriage, there is hope. Learn more about how I can help you find your way back to each other.
One Fairfax County resident gave this full and balanced view of the county. Here is some of what he had to say:
"I've lived all my life in Fairfax County and the area has completely changed in my lifetime. There are some very good things about living in Fairfax County and a few things that aren't so great.
Let me start with the good stuff: Fairfax County has one of the best public school systems in the country.... Because Fairfax is close to Washington DC, the economy is nearly always good. Most people who live here work for the government, or for a company that provides goods or services to the government. When the economy is good, the government expands so more jobs and higher real estate demand for this region. When things are bad (9/11, recession, etc...) the government gets bigger so more jobs and higher real estate demand for this region.
Taxes are reasonable. I wouldn't say low, but in my opinion, they are reasonable for the services we receive (schools, roads, police/fire/rescue, social services).... The demographics have shifted in the last 50 years from primarily white European descendants with a (more or less) traditional/conservative view to a highly diverse ethnic and more liberal political orientation. Most people are respectful of other cultures and political views.
There is a lot to do. Great Shopping, the Blue Ridge Mountains are no more than 30 minutes away, the Chesapeake Bay is close and good ocean beaches are just a few hours. Several great universities are close by.... Great health care. iNova operates several hospitals in Fairfax and they are all rated very high.... Crime is not bad.
OK, so every coin has 2 sides. A few things not so great about Fairfax County: The traffic is awful. AWFUL. And it's getting worse. A trip that used to take 10 minutes 10 years ago can now take 25 minutes or longer. Just getting from place to place can mean spending hours in the car getting there. Metro is no bargain. It's expensive to park in their lot and expensive to ride the train. Compared with driving your own car downtown it really comes down to the value you place on your own time as to which is the better value. Housing is really expensive...."
Said another resident, "Fairfax County is a beautiful and calm part of Northern Virginia. There is a wealth of diversity. ["Lots of different cultures being shared," said another]. The school system is fantastic, and the area is safe. I feel comfortable walking around by myself. It is a great place to raise children."
Said another, "Fairfax County is a very nice area located in northern Virginia. It has everything from tasty restaurants, to a good school system and beautiful parks full of hidden treasures. Overall it is an amazing area to live in and I highly recommend it."
Though the traffic gets very heavy at times, Fairfax County VA is an extraordinary place to live, work, and visit. Nevertheless, it is not immune from the same marital stresses that plague marriages anywhere else. The good news is Dr. Newberger offers a cutting-edge alternative process to traditional marriage counseling for Fairfax County couples.
