Couples Counseling Oak Grove VA
Preface.  If your marriage is experiencing serious challenges, Dr. Newberger provides a cutting-edge alternative to traditional couples counseling.

Oak Grove.  On the eastern edge of Loudoun County, where the suburbs of Sterling and Herndon meet, sits the small but growing community of Oak Grove. It may cover just a little more than a square mile, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in character.

Back in 2010, fewer than 1,800 people lived here. Today, the population is closer to 2,500, with a median age of only 33. Walk the neighborhood and you’ll notice its diversity immediately: about 45 percent of residents identify as White, nearly a third as Asian, around 11 percent as Black, and about 12 percent as Hispanic or Latino. Roughly one in three people were born outside the United States, giving the area a distinctly multicultural feel.

Real Estate & Lifestyle
Oak Grove has become one of Loudoun’s more sought-after enclaves. The median household income now tops $190,000, and home values hover around $600,000. Townhouses are common, but there are also larger single-family homes that attract professionals working in the technology and government sectors nearby.

Despite the prosperity, the neighborhood doesn’t feel showy. Residents describe it as friendly and family-oriented, with neighbors who wave from the driveway or gather in local parks on weekends. National rankings consistently highlight Oak Grove for its job opportunities, strong schools, and easy access to outdoor recreation. Traffic and commutes get more modest reviews, though that’s a reality across Northern Virginia.

Community & Heritage
What truly sets Oak Grove apart from many other suburbs is its history. This is not a planned subdivision that appeared overnight. Its roots reach back to the years following the Civil War.

In 1868, Reverend Robert Woodson and Ellen Thompson helped establish Oak Grove Baptist Church. Just a few years later, George and Cynthia Bell donated land that was divided into small parcels, giving formerly enslaved African Americans the chance to own property and build new lives. The community that formed around the church grew into Oak Grove as it exists today.

Education became a cornerstone early on. Families first relied on a log church that doubled as a school, then constructed a two-room schoolhouse in 1930. By 1953, the community celebrated the opening of a six-room brick elementary school. It closed during integration in 1964, but the building has remained in use, serving at various times as a police station and currently as offices for the Town of Herndon. For longtime residents, it remains a symbol of resilience and self-determination.

Landmarks & Culture
Although Oak Grove itself is small, the region surrounding it is rich in historic architecture. Homes like Wirtland, a striking Gothic Revival house built in 1850, and Roxbury, a Victorian-style residence from 1861, both hold places on the National Register of Historic Places. To the south, Ingleside Vineyards operates on a historic estate that dates to the late 1800s and today welcomes visitors for tastings and tours.

Recreation & Amenities
For leisure, Oak Grove offers plenty of choices. Residents enjoy Sterling Golf Course, the trails and open space at Dulles Station Community Park, and a growing number of neighborhood cafés, bakeries, and breweries.

The area is also looking toward the future. Rivana at Innovation Station, a large mixed-use development planned near Dulles Airport, will bring hundreds of new apartments, restaurants, retail space, and even a performing arts theater. Scheduled to open in phases over the next few years, the project promises to give Oak Grove residents new options close to home.

Living & Growth
Life here strikes a balance between suburban calm and access to opportunity. Most households own two cars, and the average commute is just over half an hour. Proximity to the Dulles Corridor and Washington, D.C. makes the location especially appealing to professionals, while the strong school system and neighborhood feel draw families. Oak Grove residents are also highly educated: more than half of residents hold college degrees, and many work in technology, business, or government. For young professionals, it provides a convenient base with space to grow; for families, it offers stability and a sense of community.

What Residents Have Said
“Oak Grove has the perfect mix of cultures—you hear different languages on the street, and yet everyone looks out for one another.”

“We chose Oak Grove for the schools and the sense of community. It’s a small area, but it feels very connected.”

“The history here makes the neighborhood special. My grandparents went to the old Oak Grove school, and we still talk about it today.”

“It’s not flashy. People here are hardworking and family-focused. That’s what I like most.”

“The commute can be tough at times, but being close to Dulles and having so many job opportunities nearby makes it worth it.”

“We’ve lived here 15 years, and it’s amazing to see the growth. But it still feels like home.”

“Neighbors actually know each other here. We swap meals, watch out for each other’s kids—it’s that kind of place.”

In Summary
Oak Grove may be small, but it carries the weight of history and the promise of continued growth. Born out of determination in the years after the Civil War, it has evolved into a diverse, well-educated, and family-oriented suburb that blends heritage with modern opportunity. With strong schools, cultural variety, and new development on the horizon, Oak Grove stands out as one of Loudoun County’s most appealing places to live.
