Sterling is a suburban community located in Loudoun County, Virginia, approximately 30 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. It serves as a significant residential and commercial hub in the region. The area began to develop in the 1960s with the establishment of planned communities like Sterling Park, and has since evolved into a bustling suburb known for its blend of modern amenities and suburban charm. According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2020, Sterling has a population of 30,337. The area is known for its diverse population, with a Hispanic or Latino presence comprising about 45% of the community.
Sterling’s Claude Moore Park, a sprawling 357-acre area, features walking trails, sports fields, and a nature center, making it perfect for families and nature enthusiasts alike. Similarly, Sterling’s Algonkian Regional Park which stretches along the Potomac River provides 838 acres to explore.

It’s about a 45 minute drive to D.C. but it doesn’t feel anything like the city. It’s a smaller suburb, but has plenty of good shopping centers and recreation options. The area is really clean and the restaurants are actually really nice! There are a number of parks which are fantastic to walk around and we’ve never really seen much crime.”
Another long-time resident said, “I grew up in Sterling! Parents still live there. Went to elementary, middle, and high school. Super safe area, very suburban living. All the schools in Loudoun are pretty great. I still like to go out there to do my errands. Everything is super close by, once you get the hang of the area you will love it.”
