Book: Hope in the Face of Conflict by Dr. Ken Newberger

Introduction

Greetings. My name is Dr. Ken Newberger.  I hold a Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis & Resolution from Nova Southeastern University and a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary.  I am the author of Hope in the Face of Conflict: Making Peace with Others the Way God Makes Peace with Us
For more than twenty-five years, I have helped congregations and couples move from conflict toward peace, from hurt toward healing, and from distance toward genuine connection.  I have mediated conflicts within church boards, staff teams, and congregations, and have worked with more than 500 couples.  My overall approach combines a solid biblical foundation with the best of modern research.
If you are struggling in your marriage, there is hope.  See how I can help you find your way back to each other.

A Word About Christian Marriage Counseling

Christian marriage counseling integrates the truths of Scripture with proven principles of conflict resolution and relational healing. Rather than treating faith as irrelevant — or avoiding it altogether — Christian counseling views your faith as a powerful resource for restoring your marriage.

My approach is grounded in the Judeo-Christian model of peacemaking, that is, learning to make peace with others the way God makes peace with us. This model applies wherever conflict exists — including between husbands and wives. This is not merely theological theory. It is a practical process that works. In marriage, it helps couples:

  • Break destructive cycles of conflict, withdrawal, and resentment
  • Communicate with greater honesty, sensitivity, and compassion
  • Rebuild trust after a lack of transparency, dishonesty, or relational distance
  • Restore emotional, spiritual, and physical intimacy
  • Develop a shared vision for the marriage God intended
The result is not just fewer arguments — it’s a stronger, more connected marriage than you may have thought possible.
Toward this end, I offer couples in Herndon and the surrounding areas a faith-based, goal-oriented approach to marriage counseling. My approach is grounded in biblical principles and conflict resolution research.

About Herndon VA

marriage counseling Herndon VA

Community Overview

Herndon is home to roughly 24,600 residents, making it one of the larger incorporated towns in Virginia. Home prices here are among the highest in the state, and the local economy reflects a genuinely mixed workforce — white-collar and blue-collar jobs are both well represented. Public transit sees unusually heavy use for a town this size, with many residents commuting by bus rather than driving. Herndon is also one of the more ethnically diverse communities in Northern Virginia, home to residents from a wide range of racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Community Character

Founded before the Civil War, Herndon has held onto a small-town feel even as Northern Virginia has grown up around it. It sits in western Fairfax County, about 22 miles from downtown D.C. and just minutes from Washington Dulles International Airport — Herndon is actually the closest town to the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center. The town's 11 parks and the W&OD Trail, which runs straight through downtown, give residents plenty of room to get outside, and Herndon now has its own Silver Line Metro station, putting D.C. within direct rail reach rather than a drive or transfer away. It's the kind of place couples move to expecting an easier pace of life, and are often surprised at how much the daily grind of careers, kids, and commuting still finds its way in.

One resident said on Niche.com, "Herndon is the perfect mix of a small town and a modern setting.... There are plenty of new job opportunities and money trickling down from the larger counties to make Herndon better. The school system is very reliable and seems to be updated every few years to stay safe. Overall, Herndon is an extremely safe and clean area, full of both small town charm and younger people keeping the place feeling new."

Marriage Support for Herndon

As outstanding a place as Herndon is to live, marriages here run into the same trouble as marriages everywhere do. The good news is, I offer Christian couples an effective alternative to traditional counseling. It's an approach grounded in biblical principles and in solid research on how to resolve conflict.  Rather than talking in circles, we get at the real reasons behind the fighting and work on changing them.  I also work with couples nearby in Reston and Sterling.  If you and your spouse are hurting and looking for help, I'd be happy to talk with you.
